Check-in and baggage rules at Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG)
There is no single baggage allowance or check-in deadline that applies to every flight at Shanghai Pudong International Airport. Requirements depend on the operating airline, route, ticket type, destination and any additional services purchased.
Check-in deadlines
Use the opening and closing times stated by your operating airline. Online check-in may be available, but passengers can still be required to visit a counter for document checks, visa verification or baggage drop. Confirm the correct terminal and check-in zone before leaving for PVG.
Cabin and checked baggage
- Check the airline’s current cabin-bag dimensions, weight limit and personal-item policy.
- Confirm checked-baggage allowance, piece limits and charges for excess or oversized bags.
- Review restrictions for liquids, aerosols, batteries, medicines and special equipment with your airline and the relevant Chinese aviation authority.
- Keep your baggage receipt until you have collected your bag at the final destination.
Power banks and lithium batteries
China’s aviation authorities have issued specific requirements for power banks on domestic flights, including 3C certification and recalled-product restrictions. Rules can change and may differ by itinerary. Check the latest notice from the Civil Aviation Administration of China and your airline before packing a power bank.

Delayed or damaged baggage
Report missing, delayed or damaged checked baggage to the operating airline or its ground-handling representative as soon as possible, preferably before leaving the baggage reclaim area. Keep your baggage tag, boarding pass, claim reference and relevant receipts.
